Frugal Crafts & Gifts
Fourth of July Flag Fan This cool holiday craft, originally featured in Family Fun magazine, June/July 1998, is certainly frugal and easy to make. Although we made it slightly different than instructed it still turned out fan...tastic! * * * To make our Flag Fan, you'll need: 1 large sheet of white paper (heavy duty works great, but any will do) ruler pencil markers (red and blue of course!) scotch tape Instructions: Place the paper on the table horizontally - long ways across, like a flag. In the top left hand corner of the sheet of paper, draw a rectangle for the blue part of the flag. Then draw a bunch of stars inside the rectangle, with a pencil. With the blue marker, color all around the stars - leaving the stars white. Then divide the rest of the paper into stripes, with your pencil and ruler, and color every other stripe with the red marker. Next, fold your flag accordion style (so that when you hold it from the bottom the flag appears in the correct direction; from left to right). Then pinch the fan closed and secure the bottom (just an inch or so) with scotch tape for holding, and fanning on a hot summer afternoon! My mom and I used to make fans like this all the time when I was growing up. It's frugal and it's fun!
