Frugal Crafts & Homemade Gifts
Birthday Gift Wrap by Benetta Strydom
With
just a few sheets of waxed paper one can give a personal touch to a birthday
present and make it look quite exceptional... without spending much money on
gift wrap. More...
Materials: ·
Two sheets of waxed paper, the kind that one would use to wrap sandwiches
in, or to line a baking tin. ·
A few colored feathers. These could be bought from a craft shop, or
collected from an exotic bird breeder. ·
Ironing board and iron. ·
Pair of scissors. ·
Old cloth. ·
4 pins. ·
A few strands of raffia. ·
Sellotape. Instructions
for making the project: 1.
Cut the waxed paper to the desired size ~ for the example I used two sheets of
20x12 inches. 2.
Place the old piece of cloth on the ironing board ~ this is to prevent the board
from being smudged with wax residue. 3.
Place one of the sheets of waxed paper on the piece of cloth, with the waxed
side on top. 4.
Arrange the feathers in any pattern on the waxed paper. 5.
Place the second sheet of waxed paper over the feathers and on top of the other
waxed sheet, with the unwaxed side on top. The two waxed sides of the sheets
will therefore be touching. 6.
Use the 4 pins to lightly pin the sheets at the corners to the ironing board.
This is to prevent them from moving during ironing. 7.
Iron the two sheets together. The iron must be set to a low heat. Do not push
too hard on the iron. Only press lightly to melt the two sheets together. 8.
As soon as the sheets have been melted together over their whole surface, loosen
the pins and then turn the sheets over to iron also on the reverse side. 9.
Wrap the gift in the paper. 10.
Further enhance and complete the gift by adding a few strands of raffia and an
extra feather or two. Note:
Instead of feathers, one can also use glitter, gold or silver stars, etc...
