"Glittery Snowflakes"
Submitted by Michele from Astoria,
Oregon
This is a fun and easy project for the whole family that has
enchanting results!
Supplies needed:
Coordinating colors of paint and glitter ( I used white paint with crystal
glitter and silver paint with silver glitter), glue, brushes for paint and glue,
snowflake shapes (you can find thin wooden shapes, plaster shapes, chip board
shapes, or you can make your own out of foam board or cardboard), floral wire,
needle nose pliers.
To make, simply take your snowflake shape and paint it the color you desire. Make
sure to paint both sides and get into all the little crevices. Let
dry.
After the paint is dry you can start glittering. You will want to
glitter one side and let it dry completely before glittering the other side. Simply
brush the glue on all the flat surfaces of the snowflake. Liberally
sprinkle glitter all over the glue and tap off excess. All glittering
should be done over a container or bowl to catch all your excess glitter for
re-use. When the first side is completely dry, repeat the steps to
glitter the opposite side.
When the entire flake has been glittered and is dry, take a piece of floral wire
approx. 4 to 5 inches long (bigger or smaller depending on the size of your
snowflake), and insert one end through a hole in your snowflake. Using
your needle nose pliers, grasp one end of the wire and make a small spiral to
stop the snowflake from falling off that end of the wire. Make a free
form curve in the wire using your hand to create a hook shape and then using the
needle nose pliers make a spiral at the opposite end. This creates a
decorative hook to hang your Glittery Snowflake.
I made a ton of these this year and they catch the light so pretty and sparkle
like magic. They're wonderful, enjoy!
