Homemade Christmas Ornaments

My husband and I made these ornaments with our 4 daughters.
Every year, like many families, we like to add a new ornament to our tree.
This year, in part due to hard financial times, we had an old-fashioned
Christmas. We reduced the number of presents given, spent more time
together enjoying the season, and changed our ornament tradition to making
ornaments, rather than buying them. The time with the kids, creating
and having fun, was by far more precious than the finished product, and will
be remembered for many years to come.
2 c. flour
1 c. salt
1 c. water
Mix all ingredients. Knead dough on floured surface, continuing
to add flour until dough is smooth and no longer sticky. Roll out dough to
about 1/4". Flour hands, and cut out and mold desired shapes. You may
"glue" pieces of dough together by dampening each piece and pressing
together gently. Don't forget to add a hole in the top of ornament for
your ribbon. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet in 250 degree oven for about 1
hour or so, making sure the pieces are dry but not browned. Let cool, and
paint with tempera paints. Add a complementary ribbon, and hang!
