Homemade Christmas Ornaments
"Snow/Slatemen Ornaments 2008" Submitted by Elizabeth Fravel Liz's hand painted 2008 Christmas ornaments.
I have been painting for nearly 15 years now, but this is the first time I have painted ornaments. Usually I buy them, but since this year has been a little tough, I decided that I would make my own and personalize each one as differently as my children and grandchildren are. I have also painted Slate ornaments for our friends, my co-workers and my boss. They make a very nice personalized gift.
Materials:
Safety glasses Slate Hammer Grinder wheel--optional, to take off sharp edges of slate Drill Small masonry bit Crafters All-purpose paints (of your choice of colors) Small paint brush Tinsel cord--for hanging ornament Sharpie pen to sign the back of your ornament A good imagination Minwax Fast Drying Polyurethane Clear Satin spray
Directions:
With safety glasses on, break slate with hammer to desired sizes. Take off sharp edges with grinder wheel or gently take hammer around to take sharp edges off. Figure out where you want to drill your hole for hanging then drill hole. Clean slate with soap and water. Then paint away, very relaxing.
