Homemade Christmas Ornaments
"My Sparkly Kyle" Submitted by Christine Krupansky of CT
I made about 36 of these ornaments for
grandparents gifts last year. They were such a joy to make! I
had not made anything homemade as gifts for quite some time. I am an
avid rubber-stamper, mostly stampin up merchandise and products, and saw a
picture of an ornament and thought I could do better. This was the
prize of them all and went to my mom and dad. They loved the gifts
which were overnighted the 23rd of December, and arrived on time to Colorado
from Connecticut where we live.
I had die cut chip board, I think the set was
called trim a tree. I used a rubber stamp ink pad to color the
cardboard and then rubber stamped the flowers on. I covered the
flowers with crystal effects (a liquid plastic product from stampin up, that
can also be used as glue) and then poured very fine silver glass beads over
it to give the sparkle and 3D effect. Then used some beads that I had
in the craft cabinet to decorate the flower centers. I cut my child's
picture out and placed it on a backing paper that I cut out in the shape of
the circle to match the ornament. Then used a tiny hole punch to put a
hole in the top of the ornament and used 3/4in organdy ribbon to make the
hanger, and matching piece of chip board to write Kyle's name and the year
on the tag. I loved this project. The variety was great, and the
creative juices just kept rolling, but this ornament was my favorite of all.
I can tell you that the silver glass beads have been hanging out at my house for literally years waiting for a purpose, I'm a collector of little craft stuff, waiting to put it to good use, or used once and waiting to find another project to be used on.
