Frugal Crafts & Gifts
If your family likes to decorate eggs for Easter why not try making some natural colors with items from your own kitchen this year? The color results will be softer than the egg dye kits you buy at the store, but still very beautiful! * * * Here's the official egg dying chart from the
American Egg Board... colored by me! :o)
Please note: The above chart colors are for illustration only, actual egg colors will depend on the type of dye material used and how long the eggs are submersed. However you color your Easter eggs, have fun and remember the reason for the season... Jesus is alive and well!!! Here are the links with more instructions, straight from the American Egg Board! (Did you even know we had an American Egg Board? Well, we do!!) Naturally Dyed Eggs - Along with the color chart above, you will find full instructions of how to dye the eggs for best results. Basic Egg Decorating Tips - This page covers the basics of decorating eggs, from working with hard boiled eggs to reinforcing empty egg shells with papier-mâché and coating them with varnish when you're done - fantastic idea!! Decorated Egg Ideas - This page explains how to color eggs the old fashioned way, with food coloring and vinegar! It also gives some good decorating tips like how to use a sponge to make a stippling effect and the proper way to layer colors. Design Your Own Egg! - This page has a large blank Easter egg shape you can print out and color or decorate with craft material. And some great ideas for other ways to decorate eggs, besides just coloring them! It also reminds us that we can decorate eggs any time of the year, and we should, it's great frugal fun!!
