Michelle's Meals on a Budget

50/50 Pudding
Copyright 2002 © by Michelle Jones, editor of BetterBudgeting.com

This recipe was just a little kitchen experiment to cut back on milk fat and sugars, but the result was so good (and a great money-saver), I'm featuring it for my Frugal Recipes column this month. I thought of trying this out because it's the same thing I've been doing for many years when making Cream of Wheat, not to cut back on fat and sugar, but just to save money. The best part is, it worked!

Ingredients:

1 box of pudding mix (any flavor, any size)

Milk (1 c. for the small box of pudding)

Water (1 c. for the small box of pudding)

Directions:

* As you can see by the ingredients I've listed, 50/50 means using half milk and half water, instead of whatever the pudding calls for.

* I'm not sure if this would work with homemade pudding, haven't tried that yet.  If you do, let us know!

* Before giving you this recipe, I did test several things though.  I used sugar-free/fat-free pudding, and then I tried regular pudding (for the kids).  Both were just as great, if not even better, with my 50/50 recipe.

* I also used 2% milk and 1% milk in my experiments, and although both were fine, the 2% was a little better.
