Easy Baked Beans
Copyright © by Michelle Jones, Editor of BetterBudgeting.com

Here are two of our quick and easy recipes for baked beans, though I'm sure there are many versions out there--including recipes using dry beans which I rarely have time to make anymore. (And if you prefer to use those in place of the canned beans please feel free!)

Bush's Baked Beans has so many great varieties  available now that I wonder how many people are opting for this quick substitute instead of making their own? I recently bought a can (sorry, can't remember exactly which one it was) that tasted just like the kind we make at home.  I was truly surprised!

If you'd like to know how to make delicious baked beans at home yourself, here you go...

Baked Beans Recipe # 1

First, start with an inexpensive plain can of baked beans and pour into a medium sized pot.  Add 1 or 2 slices of bacon, cut into small pieces, and about 1-2 T. of brown sugar (molasses is good too!).  Cover and cook over med-low heat for about 30 minutes so the flavors will blend.

(You can also bake them in the oven at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes, instead of cooking on the stove top.)

Baked Beans Recipe # 2

Instead of adding bacon and brown sugar to the baked beans, sometimes we like to use French fried onions (the same ones we commonly use for green bean casseroles).  Place beans in a 1 qt. baking dish and stir in 1/4 of a small can of fried onions, bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes, then top with the rest of the can and bake for another 5 minutes or so until they are slightly browned.

Both recipes are delicious!
