Frugal Recipes Michelle's Meals on a Budget Southern Green Beans There are lots of tasty ways to season green beans (including cut up onions, bacon bits or a bouillon cube, just to name a few), but this one is my favorite. My step-mom, born and raised in Alabama, made this dish while visiting with us after the birth of one of our children. I couldn't believe how easy it was, how good it tasted, and why I had never thought of it! ;o)
Seasoned Green Beans Cut up 1 - 2 slices of bacon, into small pieces. Meanwhile, heat up a medium size saucepan, over medium-high heat. Add the bacon to the pan and cook until almost crispy, while stirring so the pieces won't stick to the pan. (The bacon pieces will sizzle and cook fast because you've heated the pan). Then add in 2 cans of green beans (drain and add fresh water), or a pound of fresh beans. Bring to a boil, cover and simmer for 30 minutes to an hour. Delicious!
