Frugal Recipes Michelle's Meals on a Budget Homemade Pizza Dough I've been making this homemade pizza dough for about 10 years and always get raves about how good it is. I hope you will enjoy it too! The recipe can be made into two small-medium sized pizzas (you can divide the dough in half and freeze one for later), but we prefer to make one large pizza. I use a homemade sauce but any pizza sauce will do just fine. * * * Mix together in a small bowl, and set aside for a few minutes... 1/4 c. warm water (not hot) 1/2 tsp. sugar 1 pkg. yeast In a food processor, add... 2 c. flour 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. sugar yeast mixture Blend above ingredients. Next, add... 1 1/4 c. warm water 2 T. extra virgin olive oil Blend until smooth. Now mix in... 2 more c. of flour Process until dough forms a soft ball and pulls away from the sides of container. Divide and freeze half if desired. Place dough in bowl (lightly greased with olive oil) and turn all around to coat the dough with oil. Place in a draft free place, like the oven, and let double in size. Takes about 1 hour or more. Punch dough down and form into a pancake shape with hands. Toss and spin (slightly in the air) until the dough thins out to size desired. Place onto baking pan, lighted coated with cooking spray and sprinkled with flour or cornmeal. Roll dough edges over pieces of string cheese for a 'stuffed crust,' and brush top edges with olive oil. Add pizza sauce and desired toppings. Bake at 425-450 degrees for 20 minutes.
