Thrifty Money-Saving Tips "Duck
Bread"
With
summer fast approaching and the kids home and always hungry I have learned to
plan ahead for extras to keep them feed. More...
Sandwiches are the mainstay of summer meals at our house. I go to the discount bakery/bread store for a large supply every 3 weeks. I call that day and ask if they have any "duck bread." I can usually ask for white, wheat or a mixture. This bread was pulled the day before and is still fresh and soft. If the salesperson says they have a supply I will go over and get a shopping cart full. Since I am a familiar face they often let me choose exactly what I want from their supply. The most I pay is $3.00. On average, I will come home with 35-40 loaves of bread, sandwich rolls, bagels, English muffins, French and Italian loaves. I make room for these in the freezer and take inventory of just what I have so I can plan our meals accordingly. Anything
that goes too long in the freezer before the next visit becomes either bread
crumbs, croutons or duck food. Thank you for your letter Ashlee! * * * May 2004 Tip Rewards Winner!!!
