Thrifty Money-Saving Tips Packaging
Food for Kids
As the mom to two young boys who, like most children, seem to like the prepackaged lunches they sell in grocery stores (but which are a little to pricey for a family on a tight budget and also not as healthy as homemade food), I've done the following.
Yes, I have bought them once or twice but wasn't happy with the food they contained. So, what I do is save those compartment type trays and I make my own packaged meals for the kids. I fill the spaces with foods that I want the boys to eat--healthy cheeses and crackers, or dried fruit or whatever. Then I tightly plastic wrap them and put them in their lunch box. The boys love them because they look like the store bought lunches. And, they actually like them better because they are getting foods they know and like. And, mom is happy because she knows her boys are eating healthy and the cost is a fraction of what you would spend in the stores. Sometimes it is the packaging that counts with kids! * * * March 2006 Tip Rewards Winner!!!
