Thrifty Money-Saving Tips Cheaper
Creamy Mac 'n Cheese
My family has always preferred the expensive store bought boxed macaroni and cheese. You know, the kind with the creamy cheese pouch. Well those are just too expensive. However, I do like to have boxed mac 'n cheese on hand for those in-a-hurry nights. So, I've found a way to duplicate them.
I buy the generic store brand of mac and cheese and prepare it according to the directions. (I only use half the amount of butter called for though). After it is prepared I cut about a half-inch thick chunk of Velveeta into cubes (maybe a little thicker) and stir it in and cook over medium heat until it is melted. This is AWESOME!
We get that great Velveeta taste without using up all my Velveeta at once (keep stored in the fridge) and without spending over $2.00 a box for mac 'n cheese. I'm sure any store brand of generic mac 'n cheese will work, but I usually buy the Walmart brand labeled thick and creamy. It is around .80 cents a box or less.
Editor's Note: You can also add any type of cheese you like to a box of macaroni and cheese for extra flavor and creaminess, Pepper Jack is one of our favorites! :o)
